Forklift Repair Quotes
What to Know

Every forklift repair is different. The same fault on two different machines can require very different scopes of work depending on make, model, age, parts availability, and what else gets discovered during the diagnostic. That's why we quote for each job individually after a proper assessment — and it's why you should be cautious of any workshop that gives you firm prices before looking at the machine.

What Affects Your Quote

Understanding what drives repair cost helps you evaluate any quote you receive, not just ours:

  • Brand and parts availability: Toyota, Linde and Crown have strong local parts availability. Less common brands may require imported components with longer lead times, which affects both cost and turnaround time.
  • Engine and drivetrain type: Diesel engine work tends to be more involved than LPG. Electric forklift repairs can require specialist electronic diagnostics and components.
  • Machine age and operating hours: Older, high-hour machines often have secondary wear discovered during the primary repair. A thorough quote will account for what the technician finds on inspection.
  • OEM vs quality aftermarket parts: OEM parts carry a premium. Reputable aftermarket alternatives are appropriate for many wear items and can significantly affect the final cost. We always discuss options with the customer.
  • On-site vs workshop: On-site callouts involve travel and setup that differs from a workshop job. For major work, transporting the machine is often more practical and cost-effective.

The Hidden Cost: Downtime

The repair itself is only one side of the equation. A forklift sitting idle in a Vanderbijlpark warehouse or on a Vereeniging factory floor represents lost production. For a business moving pallets around the clock on a single machine, even a short breakdown can cost more in lost output than the repair itself.

This is the real argument for preventive maintenance. Catching problems during a scheduled service — before they become failures — is almost always significantly cheaper than emergency repairs, and eliminates unplanned downtime entirely.

What Makes a Good Quote

When evaluating any repair quote, these are the things that matter:

  • Written quote provided before any work begins — not verbal
  • Clear breakdown of parts vs labour
  • Explanation of whether OEM or aftermarket parts are being used and why
  • Scope of work clearly defined — what is and isn't included
  • Job card and documentation provided after completion
